DEL PILAR was conceptualized in the summer of 1994, an idle time of the year when one can get hot and bored. However, band members Marvin “Sonny” Picar Icasiano Jr and Ruben Icasiano Quinquito found that their hot ideas can land them a place in the rock music scene. As the name implies, DEL PILAR had its bap­tism of fire in Bulacan, home province of the revered hero. The duo is ably backed-up by session artists in their live performances.

Benn, the more seasoned performer has been jamming with several bands since the early 80’s. He is also an ex-expatriate who tried the overseas job thing but found himself responding to the call of music.

Sonny, the other half of the duo who worked as a marine surveyor for a considerable time is now full throttle into poetry and other literary forms which serves as a creative reservoir for their music. As evident in their pieces, Sonny’s mind is focused on the society, the country and the oppressed.

DEL PILAR boasts of several original compositions which are teeming with soulful messages–songs that come from the heart such as “Juan Huwaran,” “Sariling Likha,” “Tandang Pananong,” “Kakaibang Umaga,” “Albularyo,” “Maniningil,” “Ninuno ng Bayan,” “Tatay,” “Pinatawad ko na si Apo,” and many more originals which are honest, free and uplifting that are evident in DEL PILAR’s pieces.

Their style is simple yet characterized by penetrating rock music. Theirs is a kaleidoscope of tunes. Such diversity will provoke a r­sponse from a diversified crowd.

Their kind of music was influenced by the Rolling Stones and Urban Blues but the band is exploring new musical directions that is typically DEL PILAR.

“Play and perform outside from our inside,” is the band’s enigmatic philosophy which will hopefully land them a special place in the country’s music scene.
