Furies

It was summer of ‘92 when five friends, Michele, Lei, Agnes, Love and Jenny, inspired by their rocker friend’s band, thought it would be a great idea to form their own. They named I the BWNN, that is Band With No Name band. Ugh! Fortunately, they soon discovered their stupidity and dumped the name. Michele, who at hat time just finished a book of Greek mythology, thought about the story of three Greek bitches turned goddesses of justice collectively known as the FURIES. And that’s how they got the name.

Agnes was handed the drumsticks, Lei, the electric guitar, Michele carried her bass guitar, Jenny started borrowing Gary’s key­boards while Love brought her own mike. Of course they are still amateurs. They started with songs of Bon Jovi, The Dawn and almost any song that they hear from the radio as long as these songs stick to the eight basic chords. They started playing on gigs put up by friends and at their schools.

Shortly after the band’s initial gig, the band changed their keyboardist. They now have Michele’s sister Alda on keyboards. After a year or so, Lei discovered punk music and parted ways with the band. A friend recommended Denden who have handled the guitar chores henceforth. Not having enough of personnel changes, Agnes left, then vocalist Love had to go too. So Michele also had to do the vo­cal chores while the drums is adeptly handled by Aleth.

Their compositions are surprisingly different from the songs they have started with as a constant discovery of new music ranging from Juliana Hatfield 3, Darling Buds, Belly, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. began to influence the band’s own brand of music. Something which the band is proud of.

Of course, you have to see the FURIES live to know what I’m talking about.
