Young? yeah young and rockin’. That’s Shards of Ice, compose of “young” metal kids from Manila. Angelo Garcia and Dean Rosen started the band, and later recruited Lex Adarme to be their drummer and Griff Chatwin as additional guitarist.
Greatly influence by old school metal, Shards of Ice is not your typical “teenage band” who’s on to pop music. I was surprise and at the same time pity them. Hearing their 2004 first album The Monkeys Have Landed the band was awesome for 13 - 15 year old kids but, the recording and mixing of the album was poor.
The Monkeys Have Landed album line-up:
- The Birth of Hell on Earth
- Hunter/Kiler
- Devoured By Flames
- Wasted Everyday
- Eggshell
- Infernal Disturbance
- The Hourglass
- Cries From The Afterlife
- Kamikaze
- Epilogue
Shards of Ice manage to be on the page of PULP magazine on November 2004.
Angelo moved to Cairo, Egypt on July 2005. And for the past two years Shards of Ice has remained a three piece band.
Then in February 2005, the band won first place in LSGH’s Overdose Battle Of The Bands competition. Later the band played in the PULP Summer Slam, and then Fete De La Musique last June.
Shards of Ice were also featured in The National Inquirer newspaper.
Currently I heard that they are working on their second album. I hope this time they are on the hands of a better recording studio.
