Rakrakan TM ® Philippines music zine and concerts by Gerry Diwa. Pinoy rock. Original Pilipino Music. Since 1995.
Gerry DRAKRAKAN sa FREEDOM BAR was a blast! We had 150+ people last night! The featured bands all delivered their brand of Pinoy rock n roll to the delight of the excited crowd.
KULUKATI opened the night with their blues-based hard rock original songs. Lead vocalist ADO was in high spirits and brought his full game - top condition vocal squeals and acrobatics to fantastic stage presence - the band really delighted the very young crowd not familiar with their brand of music anymore.
NERUDA was next to take the stage, their vocalist is a natural onstage and the band supported him well with balanced music - surely a band to watch out for.
MARYZARK delighted the crowd with a song that’s already being played on the radio - tight playing and melodic songs. Maryzark has an album out - buy their CD - orig - support Pinoy rock.
EYESCREAM delivered a fiery set - the sound was balanced and fully supported Epoy’s vocals. Epoy has a distinct and recognizable voice - a few plays of their songs on the radio and this band may just take off. They played Memories, Wednesday, Without You and a few more original songs. EYESCREAM’s debut CD “Memories” is coming out in October 2006 - buy an original Eyescream CD at Odyssey record stores throughout the Philippines.
TYPECAST was playing to a home crowd - they pulled in a good amount of followers. Steve Badiola’s voice is just as it is on their records - they played songs from their first CD and cuts from their latest CD which was recorded in Malaysia and mastered in Germany. I bought a copy of their CD and I give it two thumbs up - a MUST BUY!
QUESO - the 2006 WBOB CHAMPIONS stormed the stage with their brand of heavy rhythm based metal, the crowd gave them full attention - bobbing their heads and stomping their feet with reckless abandon (FREEDOM!). It seems QUESO’s gigs are open to impromptu jams from their musician buddies - this time it was Loubelle of Descant Gott who jammed with QUESO onstage - delivering that growl and howl that has made Descant Gott a top name in the Philippine death metal music scene.
It was a great evening for Pinoy rock. I delight in bringing these hard working bands together and providing them a venue to expose their music to the Filipino masses. Keep on rocking guys! Next stop… RAKRAKAN sa Kublai on Oct 20 and RAKRAKAN sa 19East on Oct 21.
